Sechenov University discussed the possibilities of innovative treatment methods for children with severe and rare diseases.
A roundtable discussion was held at the III Sechenov International Forum on Motherhood and Childhood, bringing together leading experts from Russia, the CIS, Iran, and Turkey.
The roundtable resulted in a resolution analyzing the problems and proposing solutions.
The key topics for discussion were:
- the potential of the horizon scanning technique, which allows identifying the most promising medical technologies;
- international collaboration as a path to finding treatments for rare diseases;
- diagnosis and innovative treatment methods for rheumatic diseases in children, as well as new challenges for rheumatologists;
- how biomarkers of obstetric complications can become a tool for investing in children's health;
- new approaches to the treatment of respiratory infections.
The CIS Orphan Consortium, co-initiated by Sechenov University, aims to develop unified criteria for "orphan" status and comparable approaches to recognizing rare diseases. Also, the Rheumatology Department of the National Medical Research Center for Children's Health used the drug seniprutug for the first time in the world to treat a teenager with severe ankylosing spondylitis.
