The CIS Orphan Consortium is implementing a project of offsite audit meetings as a practical format for exchanging experiences between centers providing care to patients with rare diseases. This is not a control tool, but a professional peer review—a collaborative effort between teams that allows for comparison of approaches across organizations and countries, identification of effective solutions and growth areas, and translation of the discussion into concrete recommendations.

The offsite audit meeting is held at the host center and includes a structured discussion of the organizational model of care, patient flow, interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical and organizational protocols, as well as approaches to outcome monitoring and long-term patient management. A significant part of the format is the analysis of practical cases and management decisions together with the center's team, with an emphasis on the feasibility of the proposed changes.

Following each visit, the CIS Orphan Consortium compiles a coordinated set of conclusions and recommendations: proposals for the host center to improve processes and generalized practices that can be used by other organizations. The accumulated results form a database of best practices and contribute to the convergence of approaches to organizing care for patients with rare diseases in the CIS countries.
